Gál Winery
The Gál family Vineyards and Winery (Gál Vineyard and Winecellar) is situated in Szigetcsép, 25 kms from Budapest. Our vineyard is 78 hectares and is located on the Csepel Island, the Danubian (Kunság) wine region among such villages as Szigetcsép, Szigetszentmárton and Szigetújfalu. The island has mostly belonged to the royal families and its viticulture is also proven by grape-tax documents from 1569.
60 hectares of the vineyard were planted in the last few years (between 1999 and 2004), 6 hectares in 2012 and 12 hectares in 2020. The most significant types of grapes are: Riesling, Italian Riesling (Welschriesling), Pinot gris, Cserszegi fűszeres, Kékfrankos, Pinot noir and Cabernet sauvignon. In 2011, we bought a vineyard of 10 hectares at the lake Balaton, in the village Lesencefalu, in the Balaton-felvidék wine region, where we have the following grape types: Sauvignon blanc, Pinot blanc, Pinot gris, Chardonnay and Cabernet sauvignon. In our wine cellars we can store up to 2700 hectolitres in temperate, rust-proof containers. The current vinery-technology depends on several things such as optimal reductive fermentation, handmade-harvest and the selected vintage. Our winemaker, Éva Gálné Dignisz, was the first woman to win the prestigious award „Winemaker of the Year” in 2013 in Hungary.
